Personal Savers Owners Tackle Dirty Duathlon

Cycle Saver Pepper Spray For Cycling

CYCLE SAVERS – PEPPER SPRAY FOR BIKES – CONQUERED THE DIRTY DUATHLON

This past weekend Personal Savers owners Chad Smith and Derek Downing tackled the Blankets Creek Dirty Duathlon in Canton, Georgia.  The Duathlon was a 5 mile trail run combined with a 11 mile mountain bike ride throughout the Blankets Creek trail system.   Chad and Derek completed the course with their Cycle Savers securely fastened and ready to use (but did not use them in the race).   Even the jagged rocks, slipper roots and crazy downhills couldn’t knock the Cycle Saver pepper spray bottle out of the mount.

This was the first event that the new line of Pink Personal Savers pepper spray products were on display.  There was a lot of interest in the new line along with cyclist picking up Cycle Saver pepper spray units for their bikes at the booth.

Mountain Goat Adventures, who put on the race handed out 40 Cycle Savers to all the top women finishers.  That means, there’s 40 more women who are safer out on the trails and road with the new Cycle Saver.   So, watch out attackers.

Overall, it was great event and we would like to thank all the bikers, spectators and Mountain Goat Adventures for stoCycle Saver Pepper Spray For Bikingpping by the booth and putting on a great cycling event.

Great Bicycle Safety Tips – A Must Read

Cycle Saver - Pepper Spray For BicyclingRecently we posted some very useful safety tips for running, walking and jogging.  Below are some GREAT bicycle safety tips.  On top of these tips, make sure to pick up your Cycle Saver pepper spray for added protection from all those unforeseen situations when you’re out on the road or trail.  Be safe and fun out on your next bike ride.

That means bicyclists must obey the rules of the road like drivers of any other vehicle and must be treated as equal users by all other vehicles.

The best way to avoid collisions is to be prepared and be aware of other vehicles around you. Avoid common bicyclist errors and common motorist errors committed around bicyclists.

Here are some safety tips for biking:

  1. Obey traffic signs and signals – Bicycles must follow the rules of the road like other vehicles.
  2. Never ride against traffic – Motorists aren’t looking for bicyclists riding on the wrong side of the road. State law and common sense require that bicyclists drive like other vehicles.
  3. Follow lane markings – Don’t turn left from the right lane. Don’t go straight in a lane marked “right-turn only.”
  4. Don’t pass on the right – Motorists may not look for or see a bicycle passing on the right.
  5. Scan the road behind you – Learn to look back over your shoulder without losing your balance or swerving. Some riders use rear-view mirrors.
  6. Keep both hands ready to brake – You may not stop in time if you brake one-handed. Allow extra distance for stopping in the rain, since breaks are less efficient when wet.
  7. Wear a helmet and never ride with headphones – Always wear a helmet. Never wear a headphone while riding a bike.
  8. Dress for the weather - In rain wear a poncho or waterproof suit. Dress in layers so you can adjust to temperature changes. Wear bright colored clothing.
  9. Use hand signals – Hand signals tell motorists and pedestrians what you intend to do. Signal as a matter of law, of courtesy, and of self-protection.
  10. Ride in the middle of the lane in slower traffic – Get in the middle of the lane at busy intersections and whenever you are moving at the same speed as traffic.
  11. Choose the best way to turn left – There are two choices: (1) Like an auto: signal to move into the left turn lane and then turn left. (2) Like a pedestrian: ride straight to the far side crosswalk. Walk your bike across.
  12. Make eye contact with drivers – Assume that other drivers don’t see you until you are sure that they do. Eye contact is important with any driver which might pose a threat to your safety.
  13. Look out for road hazards – Watch out for parallel-slat sewer grates, gravel, ice, sand or debris. Cross railroad tracks at right angles.
  14. Use lights at night – The law requires a white headlight (visible from at least 500 feet ahead) and a rear reflector or taillight (visible up to 300 feet from behind).
  15. Keep your bike in good repair – Adjust your bike to fit you and keep it working properly. Check brakes and tires regularly. Routine maintenance is simple and you can learn to do it yourself.

Grizzly No Match for Jack Hanna, Pepper Spray

We thought this was a interesting article.   Grab  your Cycle Saver for moutain biking or Personal Saver or Wrist Saver for hiking today!

So maybe most of us won’t be accompanied by an expert wildlife handler when we go exploring in the woods. But we can
learn something from Jack Hanna–– carry pepper spray!

Last Saturday, Hanna, his wife and a few others were hiking
through Montana’s Glacier National Park when they spotted a mother
bear and two cubs. The grizzly family began to approach the group, but Hanna
expertly guided them to talk loudly and back up.

The mother and one cub passed by finally. But the other youngin’ wasn’t
having any guests. Before they knew it 125 lbs of bear cub was barreling down
upon them.

“At about 30 feet, I unload my pepper spray, and the wind takes it,” he told
The Columbus Dispatch in
his characteristically dramatic style.

Oh, but the bear wasn’t scared.

“Then I unload the second spray,” he said.

Alas, the bear keeps coming.

“Then the third time I unload that pepper spray right in his face.”
Finally!

Hanna claims he’s carried pepper spray for the past 15 years, just for
reasons like this, but has never had to use it. Ironically, too, he had just
filmed a public service announcement encouraging people to protect themselves by
carrying pepper spray rather than guns, even though the latter is now allowed in
national parks.

Even if he were to carry a gun, he thinks it would have been a pretty tough
feat to take the bear down with a firearm.

“There’s no way I could hit that bear with a gun,” Hanna said.

So pepper spray is the way. Good thing he took his own advice

A Great Cycle Saver Review

Check out the recent review of the Cycle Saver on Ozark Bike Trails by CLICK HERE

The Review:

Personal Savers Pepper Spray

I actually really like dogs, but I don’t like big scary ones chasing me in the middle of nowhere. One of the trails I love to ride is the Frisco Highline trail. Its a awesome trail that travels through a few cities and then ventures off into some kinda scary areas. Lets just say if I was to have an issue i’m not sure how long it would be before someone found me. Well its trails like this that got me thinking about some sort of protection device. I wanted something small and simple. I also wanted something that would protect me but not kill an animal or leave it blind. I have zero interest in guns or anything radical like that. So i decided on a system that Personal Savers makes for bicycles.

Its a really slick system that is very light and simple. Mounting it on my bike took about a minute. The mount is so small that I will just leave it on my bike even on days I don’t take the actual pepper spray. The mount itself holds a 1/2 ounce bottle of some serious pepper spray. It is enough for 10-20 10 foot shots. I think this would be a big deterrent to someone who was messing with me.

I have only had the mount and spray a few weeks but I have to say it has made me feel more confident when i am out on late night rides. Its a really great little system that does exactly what I need it to do. Luckily I haven’t needed to try out the actual pepper spray but i am sure it will work great when I need it. Personal Savers also make some other models for runners, skiers, hikers. They make a quality product! Check them out if you are looking for some peace of mind.
